Christopher Paul Curtis is one of my favorite authors. And he’s from Michigan (like me 😊)! Most people know him for his middle grade novel THE WATSON’S GO TO BIRMINGHAM – 1963, but have you checked out his novel BUD, NOT BUDDY (winner of both the Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award)? Or ELIJAH OF BUXTON (Newbery Honor and Coretta Scott King Award winner)? Both are historical fiction middle grade novels written with the same complexity and tenderness expected from Curtis. Somehow he was able to get me so involved with Bud, I sobbed…in a good way. Each book contains eye-opening historical info in the back material. Thanks, Christopher Paul Curtis!
